Parks and Recreation

The Allen Park Department of Parks and Recreation offers a wide variety of programs, activities, and facilities for Allen Park residents of all ages.

The new Community Center has a full-size gymnasium, upstairs walking track and fitness area along with multi-purpose rooms to be used for a wide variety of activities. A new kitchen facility along with a new concession stand will provide food and beverages for all activities. The ice arena renovation includes all new ice making equipment, new boards and glass, along with renovated locker rooms.

The Frank J. Lada Arena is available for open public skating and the ice is available for rental for hockey teams and ice-skating lessons. The newly constructed Community Center also will have multi-purpose rooms and a full size gym available for rent.

Athletic and competitive activities for adults and children include baseball, basketball, in-line hockey, ice hockey, soccer, tennis, swimming and men's and women's softball.

The department offers a wide variety of programs with instruction given in aerobic exercise, jazzercise, youth dance, ballroom dance, tennis, golf and kickboxing. Also available are instruction classes needed to obtain certification in safe boating and snowmobiles.

For senior citizens, the department has developed activity and service programs. The seniors meet five days a week to participate in a number of activities. This site serves hot lunches including meals-on-wheels for homebound residents.

Offered to seniors are bingo, cards, instructional classes, mini-trips, exercise, quilting, travel club tele-care, movies, senior swim, and a friendly place to meet. There is blood pressure testing, health screening and flu shots offered through our local hospitals several times a year. The department offers transportation service for a nominal fee.
