Education and Library
Allen Park has always been proud of its commitment to excellence in education. Higher expectations and student achievement are at the core of all educational programs. Dedicated involvement by staff, parents, students, and the entire community has made Allen Park an excellent place to prepare for the future.
Allen Park currently has two school districts as well as a small portion at the south end of the city that is serviced by Southgate schools. Two parochial high schools and three parochial elementary schools also are available to serve our residents.
The northern portion of the city is serviced by the Melvindale-North Allen Park Public Schools, which has two elementary schools located within the city, while the Junior and Senior High Schools are located in Melvindale.
The Allen Park Public Schools, building on a long tradition of excellence, continues to offer the community of Allen Park a balanced variety of quality educational programs. This effective balance is insured through a well-developed curriculum. School district staff members, that include administration, teachers, secretaries, maintenance and support staff work together as a team to provide quality education for Allen Park residents.
The school district offers three elementary schools and a high school, community school, and middle school. In addition, the District offers a preschool program and before- and after- school child care.
We are truly a city where education is a top priority. A $74 million facility improvement project is ongoing and is scheduled for completion in 2006. The overwhelming support from community members has allowed improvements to the infrastructure of all buildings, upgraded technology for students, and the addition of a 650-seat auditorium.
District schools enjoy partnerships and shared programs with the City's police and fire departments which is key in maintaining safe and orderly schools and a successful school district and community.
Allen Park is conveniently located near many higher educational institutions. Two-year colleges include: Henry Ford Community College and Wayne County Community College. Four-year schools include: the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Wayne State University, University of Detroit, Baker College, and the Detroit College of Business.
